Hello! I am very very new on this forum, sorry for possible mistakes! I make short videos about our work in Vietnam (see www.mekongplus.org). For this they must be compressed, down fro 1-2 Go to 20-30 Mo. The compressed version works fine on my PC (WMPlayer). Uploaded without problem, exactly the same number of Kb. BUT, once downloaded, there is an error message, it cannot be played. This happens sometimes, not always. In one case, the video can be played when downloaded in Belgium, but not in Vietnam or Australia! Namely http://mdswin3.com/v...p_dvdwmv100.wmv

I can send it by SKYPE for instance (my ID= bkervyn). Once uploaded it cannot be opened, except by a few people... Sorry. Really puzzling.
For some previous videos, the uploading being probably of poor quality from Vietnam due to a weak connection (just guessing), I sent them to a friend in Belgium, who uploaded them; I could then download them fine.
This one has been uploaded by me, the Belgian friend can read it fine.
This video has been compressed with # 1 video converter, from 1,4 Go mpeg into wmv for 100 kbs connection.

I am asking him... But culd codecs be "lost" during the downloading process??? As the original video, uncompressed & compressed, can be read on my PC without any problem. This is not the case after upload/download any more.

You can play it but if you upload it then download it to your PC it won't play?

Have you tried putting the file in to a zipped folder because some anti virus programmes can block things they do not like

This worked! I zipped the file with WINZIP, uploaded the file, downloaded it on my PC again, and it does work.

In the meantime my Belgian friend re-uploaded the file (unzipped) which I sent him via Skype. Once downloaded, it plays fine as well.

Explanation? You suggested antivirus? Or is it good luck? When I upload such big files, there are a few interruptions which FileZilla is supposed to manage. My Belgian friend seems to have a much better connection: could this explain his successes?

In any case, thank you. As this is a frequent task for me, I am impatient to test it again with the next video!

If a connection accelerator is involved it can affect it because some use their own form of compression to achieve the increase

Thank you. These servers will not be helpful. We have a small server capacity (200 Mb) -Apinc, in Belgium (limited to non profit organizations). Thus for the video files we use another complementary one, with a link from our apinc server. We want of course our sympathizers to have a constant access to the documents. The yousendit etc. only allow a short period.

I would have uploaded my files with Dreamweaver MX, but for some reason I cannot connect to this complementary server with DW (while our colleagues in France & Belgium can, with exactly the same parameters).

It could be worth checking back with yousendit in a month or so, it seems they will be adding a sentbox, whether that will mean you can keep sending the links is not stated at this moment

Anyway, as long as you can send them in a condition which allows them to be played at the other end, it is an improvement, if not an ideal one
