While trying to repair XP pro from a power surge I went through the repair installation steps. The setup stopped examining the disks at 29%. Is there another way to save the information without doing a total reinstall?

I am still in the repair installation mode. The disk examination will not finish. Do I need to try and reboot manually and retry install repair? I am trying to avoid a full reinstall.

Since the repair only replaces windows file entries that are corrupt, all that would happen if you did the repair again would be to replace those corruted original files plus those cause by the power serge by files that are written on the cd. With windows I hedge my bets and say I can't promise anything but as a betting man....
