Hello Don77
In the last step you suggested Norton had 7 hits --- 1 file it could not quarantine so I ran Spybot for good measure and it flagged a CoolWWWSearch (as I recall) --- I fixed it. My new log is below. Many thanks!

Nice job your log is clean ! Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

I will leave this topic open for a few days Post back should you have any further problems,

Sorry for the late reply kb72, I was away for a few days,

Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean. Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

Then scan again with HijackThis and post another log.

Hi kb72
The log does look good, But I would like you to do a few things please,

Check Nortons for updates,

Make sure you have Cleanup still on your computer, I gave you the link earlier in this post,

Please download and install AD-Aware.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

When you have Nortons Ad-aware updated, Please reboot to safe mode, ( By tapping the F8 key on start up )

Please run Cleanup! when it asks you to reboot choose " No"
Now run a scan with Ad-aware, Have it fix all it finds,

Now run a full system scan with Nortons,

Now reboot to normal mode,

Go Here BitDefender Scan Online
Run a scan with BitDefender , Be sure and Check Auto Clean. Make a note of anything it can’t remove

Let me know if you are able to run bitdefender or if you have any problems with any of the steps listed above,

Thanks for your message. No hits from either Adaware or Norton. Nothing from bit defender either. However, in trying to get to geekstogo --- I typed just"geekstogo" and up pops the old hijacked browser search page. Is something sleeping in my machine? Log below but it looks fine:
