PC not recognising 256 stick

Help Please,My patriot pc hade only 64sdram so i got a stick of 256 crutial put it in along side 64 but was only showing as 64 + 128.I'v tried the 256 on it's own and in different slots but no joy.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's 2 possible reasons for your problem :

1. Your system doesn't support more than 128MB on a single ram module OR

2. your system doesn't support double sided modules

Have a look at the 256MB module & see if it has chips on both sides. If it does then it's possible that you can only use single sided modules.
