Windows powering down for no reason

Hi

it has happened a few times now, my pc suddenly powers down completely and switches off. when i switch it back on it asks for my password and then instantly resumes where it was before, i have not go the machine set to go into standby and cannot figure out why it is doing this.

Hi cheffy...

Is it going into hibernation? To check this, right click on the desktop and choose "Properties". Click the "Screensaver" tab, then the "Power" button. Click the "Hibernate" tab and make sure the "Enable Hibernation" check box is NOT selected.

thanks for getting abck to me, i'v checked and hibernate is not enabled

same place but advanced tab--anything set to standby?

its got ask for password when resumes from standby and thats it
