I have a PC running on Win XP, connected through a local wireless network and protected by Zone Alarm Security Suite. Lately, the connection was suddenly lost and the netstat test showed three or four unidentified connections. I ran Counter Spy and AdAware, and nothing was detected. Therefore, I tried Microsoft Safety Live and it showed four Monnet threats (mostly netmon) in files I can't find in my hard disk and AdwareCMD Service (m0.vbs - another file I can't find).

What can I do about this?

Hi Fencer,

Can you first follow the instructions here:
http://www.geekstogo...orm-t98929.html

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file)

O16 - DPF: {288C5F13-7E52-4ADA-A32E-F5BF9D125F99} (CR64Loader Object) - http://www.miniclip....pGameLoader.dll
O16 - DPF: {42F2C9BA-614F-47C0-B3E3-ECFD34EED658} - http://promo.dollarr...artload185a.exe

Then reboot and post a new HijackThis log.

Two trojans got into your system, but I think your protection programs prevented any further damage.

Regards,

I did all you told me to do. Here's the new log. I hope it worked but, even if it didn't, thank you very much for your help, Pieter!

That log looks clean now. :whistling:

What does the Windows Live Safety Center say about it?

The hijackthis log might seem clean, but the safety.live.com doesn't agree! It keeps mentioning the presence of Monnet on four locations:

c:\documents and settings\localservice\application data\netmon\log.txt
c:\documents and settings\localservice\application data\netmon\domains.txt
c:\system volume information\_restore/{28fea2aa-5944-4414-acc3-ec0a0147d7ca}\rp466\a0297708.vbs
c:\documents and settings\localservice\application data\netmon

Furthermore, it found a high threat under Adware.cmdService on three locations:

hklm\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice
hklm\system\controlset001\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice
c:\windows\lg\m0.vbs

Anything I should do?

Let's see what we can do.
I will not do anything about this one:
c:\system volume information\_restore/{28fea2aa-5944-4414-acc3-ec0a0147d7ca}\rp466\a0297708.vbs
since that is in one of your System Restore Points.
It will do no harm to your current configuration and I don't want to mess up the System Restore when we might still need it.

Copy the code below into notepad and save it as Fencer.bfu
Set Filetype to "All files" and save it into the same folder as BFU.exe
FolderDelete c:\documents and settings\localservice\application data\netmon
FileDelete c:\windows\lg\m0.vbs
ServiceDelete cmdService
RegDeleteKey HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice
RegDeleteKey HKLM\system\controlset001\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice

Then doubleclick BFU.exe and use the folder icon to select Fencer.bfu
Click Execute and let BFU clean out the leftovers. Shouldn't take very long but there should be a progress bar visisble while it's working.

Let me know the results,

First of all, let me thank you for all this mess and your help. Unfortunately, however, things doesn't seem to be that good. After running BFU.exe, here's the report:

BFU v1.00.9
Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600 SP2)
Script started at 17:06:12, on 23-04-2006

Failed: FolderDelete c:\documents and settings\localservice\application data\netmon (folder not found)
Failed: ServiceDelete cmdService (service not found)
Failed: RegDeleteKey HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice (operation failed)
Failed: RegDeleteKey HKLM\system\controlset001\enum\root\legacy_cmdservice (operation failed)
Script completed.

Afterwards, I ran CounterSpy and it seems to have deleted some of the Monnet threats. At least, it can find only one presence, now, a0297708.vbs. Same thing didn't happen with Adware.cmdService - all the three are still there!

Already thinking of formatting the disk... :whistling:

Don't format the disk just because of a few harmless leftovers.
Because that is what they are, once the files are gone. :whistling:

Please download delcmdservice (by Marckie), and save it to your Desktop.
  • Unzip the content to your Desktop (a folder named delcmdservice)
  • Double-click on the delcmdservice folder
  • Double-click on delreg.bat to launch the tool
  • When the tool has finished, please reboot your computer
Regards,
