The hard drive is writing (or reading) something every second or two even when the machine is doing nothing. I have disabled the restore/backup and everything else I can think of, but it still does it. What can be doing this and how can I stop it? Many thanks.

Update: After 2 hours on the phone with a Compaq tech, they believe it is a faulty HD and are sending me a replacement.
