Hi, I've had several things go wrong with my computer all of the sudden, have tried ad aware, spybot, norton, and they go away but jsut reappear on startup.

The following things are wrong:

Norton detects viruses such as downloader.trojan, trojan.startpage.I, backdoor.haxdoor and "automatically deletes them" everytime I start my computer

A dialer (TIBS?) appears and says there is an error

An icon with the word "sex" under it with a picture of a women appears on my desktop

A weird thing is in my C drive. It is the above mentioned icon with the number 127051 under it. I think it may have something to do with "websiteviewer."

Here is my log

Hi mark525,

You have a Horseserver infection which requires some tools to get rid of.
  • First, download HSFix from here
  • After it is downloaded, create a new folder on your desktop called "HSFix" and extract all the files into the newly created folder.
  • Next, download CleanUp! Install it, but do not run it yet.
  • Boot into safe mode: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  • Locate the HSFix folder on your desktop, open it, and double-click "hsfix.bat"
  • A log will be produced which you can close out of.
  • Then run HijackThis again, close any open windows and browsers and fix these:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Shell] open32.exe
    O4 - Startup: winupdate24449014[1].exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll
  • Run CleanUp! and let it clean your computer of temp files. Decline when it asks you to log off.
  • Restart your computer into normal mode and run at least one of the following free, online virus scans:
    http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
    http://www3.ca.com/t...sinfo/scan.aspx
  • Restart your computer one last time and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the HSFix log which is located at C:/hslog.txt

Hey, thanks....everything is working ok so far....but some of the things could not be fixed mx something or other...and i couldnt find any of the things you told me to look for when i was in hijackthis in safe mode. ALso, the icon is still on my desktop, but the picture is no longer there, its some other image. Can i do anything to this. Finally I was wondering if there is anything else i can do to make my computer faster/more secure. Should i delete these programs i've downloaded off my desktop? IT also seems the "127051" is still in my C drive! What do i do now? IT also seems like there is a search bar in "my computer" that sends me to a web page.

Here is my hijackThis log

Awesome!!!

Your log is clean, just one little piece of junk that's left over, have hijackthis fix the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Restart your computer.

Yes, you can delete those two things you were talking about!

I'm in school on an iMac right now, AHH. When I get home I will post a prevention speech that I urge you to read it all, and consider installing whatever is necessary and mentioned! Thanks. I will post it around 3 PM EST.

Firefox definitely helps with security!

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we at SWI are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :tazz:

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. Your current versions are outdated. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

IE-SPYAD
A tutorial on using IE-SPYAD to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here

Keeping these programs up-to-date and running them regularly can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.
[OR]
I notice that you do not seem to be running antivirus software. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. AVG makes an excellent free antivirus client; it may be downloaded here. Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. ;)

Glad I was able to aid you through this battle!
