Hi all. For some reason lately, I can't browse to a couple websites I normally can access. I have to go through a proxy to get there. Using XP, IE6, and a DSL connection. I've set all the security settings to the "default" levels, and still no go. I also downloaded Firefox to see if I can get to them using that browser. No luck. Also, I can't use ctrl+enter to shortcut my browsing, that just stopped working for some reason.

Can I delete my "Internet Explorer" folder, and download and install it from microsoft.com? I thought I'd better ask before screwing something up! Thanks for any and all help.

Hello:

You have a very interesting problem. Since you are unable to access these websites from either browser, we can assume there isn't anything wrong with your IE. Unfortunately, I am not sure how to correct this problem. I'd like to think this is a security issue of some sort involving a firewall or the like. You might try disabling your firewall or any type of Internet Security software you may be running just long enough to see if that will allow you to access these sites. If that's the problem, do more research on that particular program.

For now, if you do decide to reinstall IE, just reinstall it in the same directory over the copy you already have. There is no need to uninstall your current version of IE.

Hope this helps for now, if and when I think of something else, I'll be sure to post.
