Just got a new travel laptop. What all steps would you suggest to keep from getting infected and to optimize computer? Tried to search, but they won't allow "new" to be searched for, so apoligies if this is a frequent question. Running XP Pro with SP2.

You can choose a firewall here

http://www.filehippo...ware/firewalls/

Anti Virus here

http://www.filehippo...ware/antivirus/

Anti Spyware Here

http://www.filehippo...re/antispyware/

So one firewall, one antivirus (Zone Alarm Free works well with AVG Free), and for XP, programmes 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8 from anti spyware. Update all of them

You can also run any or all of these online scans to crosscheck the installed anti virus programme

Online Scans

Panda Scan

House Call

Trend Micro Spyware Scan

Kaspersky Online Scan

When you got to any site it alerts you if there were problem such as unauthorised changes to the test machine

This site
