I am a first time user of your site.

About 1 month ago I purchased a Plextor DVD burner and installed it as my master drive. I already had a cd drive which I switched to the slave drive. I utilized the cable select mode on both drives (that was how the Compaq system was set up).

After installing new drive, upon start up the screen is black with the word "COMPAQ" in red. THe only other writing on the screen is :

<F1=factory settings> and <F10=system recovery>

This screen stays on for around 30 seconds and then the computer starts up and runs normally. It is just a pain to have to wait 30 seconds every time I start up the computer.

I was told by a friend that the problem is the cable select settings. I have tried to change the ribbon, I have tried making one dirve the master (using jumpers) and the other the slave. I have even unplugged the cd drive altogether. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions????????? Thanks alot.
