I constantly have sysprotect popup ad. It's driving me crazy. I did an anti-virus scan and it turned up nothing. I ran anti-spyware software and still the pop-ups are there everytime I surf the net. Please help.

hello ladysamurai...I will work with G2G staff to help with your problem. Sorry for the delay in responding, these boards are quite busy...

Please do this:

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on Edit>Select All; then click on Edit>Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Sorry it took me so long to respond back last time.
I've been overseas on a top secret operation.
okay better excuse: I locked myself in my basement for the past few weeks.
okay, it's not a better excuse, but I guess it's more believable. lol

here's the other thing:

Hello ladysamurai. Your HJT log is looking much better.

I would imagine that your computer is a Dell system by the MyWay entries in HJT. MyWay and MyWebSearch come preinstalled on some Dell systems. While these programs are in all likelihood NOT spyware, there is debate about their effects on system performance. For reference, please read about it here:

http://www.pchell.co...websearch.shtml

There is also a description about MyWay at the Dell forum found here, it also discusses removing the program if you want:

http://forums.us.del...essage.id=42328

If you want to keep these programs, that's OK...if you want them removed, let me know and I'll be happy to help you or you can follow the instructions for removal at the provided reference.

I am not a big fan of putting things in the 'trusted zone'...as this removes a degree of control you have over these programs. Today's 'trusted' programs may not be worthy of trust tomorrow. If YOU purposefully put the musicmatch program into your 'trusted zone' and want it there, then leave out the fixes of the O15 entries below:

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: ScriptInocUI Class - - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Let's do an online scan to see if it finds anything else:

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report, a new HJT log and let me know how your system is running...are you having any problems?

I decided to keep the Dell My Way programs the way they are.

After I ran the Vundo program like you recommneded, the spyware stopped.... .until recently.

Just the other day, I started getting these unwanted spyware popups again.

I updated my Norton anti-virus program and did a scan but nothing showed up.

Everytime I log online, the popups keep resurfacing.

How can I fix this?

Also, I found out that my roommate has been using my laptop to surf the net and log into her online community accounts such as MySpace. Could her visits to these sites be the cause?
