PLEASE HELP!!!

My laptop has had HORRIBLE pop-ups lately, including spontaneous changing of open web browser windows. It is absolutely unbearable; I cannot even check my email without the page changing randomly in the middle of my reading!!! I ran CleanUp, CWShredder (in safe mode as well), Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Symantec Security. In safe mode, Symantec scan discovered about 70 viruses, most of which were removed, but the program keeps demanding reboots, which end up doing nothing. What blows my mind is the fact that only about a week ago, I ran the same scans on this computer and found NOTHING WHATSOEVER. It's got me pulling my hair out. Look2Me is for sure still on my computer, along with a few entries in HijackThis that I tried to remove manually and failed. Thank you in advance for any help!!!!

Hello there and welcome to Geekstogo.

*It is a good idea to print off these instructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
It is important that you complete the following instructions in the correct order, and also that you don't miss anything out! :whistling:

* Please download Ewido anti-malware ; it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates
Don't run it yet.

* Reboot into SAFE MODE
By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer
beep when you reboot it (some versions of windows will display 'Starting Windows' with a grey progress bar)
you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.

*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\system32\uktil.exe
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Userinit.exe,fgbmvpk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dshvlh] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebdelj.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [apowm] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebdelj.exe reg_run
O20 - Winlogon Notify: IPConfTSP - C:\WINDOWS\system32\c8000idme80a0.dll

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

* Open Ewido anti-malware
Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

* Please reboot back to normal mode and please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

* Download FindQool.zip save it to your C:\.
http://downloads.sub...on/FindQool.zip

Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQool.
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.gee...xplanation.html

This folder should be present on your C:\
In case it's not present there, move the FindQool folder to C:\ otherwise it won't work.
Then open the FindQool folder.
Locate and double-click the Qlocate.bat file to run it.
This will scan your system.
Wait until a text opens.

Post this in your next reply along with the ewido log, the Look2me-Destroyer log and a new Hijackthis log.

Thank you so much for the help, and sorry it took so long to reply! It was kind of a long process...... Also, the Ewido report was absolutely HUGE, so I couldn't even include it!!! Anyway, here are the files you requested, minus the Ewido report:

First of all, this error occurred when I did a HijackThis scan:

Good stuff...how do you feel the system is running?

* Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your details when asked.
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report along with a new Hijackthis log.

Again, thank you so much!

First of all, while I was using Activescan to search my computer for threats, Symantec's Auto-Protect Results window popped up with "Adware.Look2Me" as the risk and "Terminate Process Required" as the action. Apparently the problem isn't totally taken care of yet. However, pop-ups have been SIGNIFICANTLY reduced, so thank you for that so far!!!!! Anyway, here are the results you requested:

Hey getsgo83!

The fact that you are still recieving pop-ups sounds quite sinister. Please start by going to this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jackie\Desktop\iTrip_iTunes_Win_2-1.exe
I'm pretty sure it's bad and if you don't know what it does then please delete it; if you do know what it does then please let me know and do not delete it. I have noted your HJT error and we can deal with that at the end. When the Norton notifiction came up did you get a pathname for the Look2me warning?

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
* Your Java is out of date and the older versions are being exploited by malware. It is the likely cause of your infection, so we need to get it patched up as soon as possible.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Open notepad and copy and paste next in it:

sc delete NetDDEdsma

Save this as look.bat
Choose to save as all files.
This is how the batch must look afterwards: Posted Image
Doubleclick look.bat and let it run.

To use RootKit Revealer please make sure you are logged in as an Administrator to the computer.
  • Please download and unzip Rootkit Revealer to your desktop.
  • Please leave the defaults set as they are to:
    • Hide NTFS Metadata Files: this option is on by default
    • Scan Registry: this option is on by default.
  • Launch rootkit revealer on the system and press the Scan button.
RootkitRevealer scans the system reporting its actions in a status area at the bottom of its window and noting discrepancies in the output list. It may take a long time please disconnect from the internet and leave the PC to be scanned until it is finished.
  • The log can be very large please edit out the items in the following folders in the log : C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT and C:\System Volume Information, if in the log, before posting it.
  • Please post the balance of the log here in this thread using Add Reply (please double check that it has all been posted as it may be too long for one post)]
Then Download and Save blacklite to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure....light/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there... like "wbemtest.exe"
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste this log along with the rootkit revealer log and a new Hijackthis log.
