I have a dell optiplex GX280 that is running Win XP pro, 2 80 gig hard drives, 4 gigs or mem, plextor dvd/cd burner, sony cd burner, and a host of other things. My question is that I'm thinking of upgrading from a pentium 4 to a pentium D. I've heard that the pins are the same. Will the pentium d work with my factory motherboard?

Both Pentium 4s and Pentium Ds are socket 775, but Pentium Ds are only compatible with 955/955X/975X chipsets so check your current motherboard's chipset first.
