I was impatient so I did it anyway. Ever hear of a program called sample? I had to end it to get windows to shutdown

Is the installation cd you have from a branded machine like Dell or HP or is it a Retail cd (holographis label)?

unfortunately it is from dell, which both computers are as well

Cool...I can live with that.

Let's see if we can run a repair installation on the beast. Some Dell cd's have this option...some don't. Maybe we'll get lucky...for a change. :whistling: Use the product key from the beast...

Try this REPAIR to your installation of XP. This procedure will not damage or change your current files or settings...it will just repair or replace damaged system files. You will be asked for your Installation CD and may be asked for your product key. Follow the instructions carefully...print them out if you can. Note: This option is not always available on OEM Recovery Cd's

Once this repair has completed, you will have to download all Windows Updates again.

The disk I have is XP media center edition the OS on the beast is just XP home will this create a problem?

The same version will really help...XP Pro would have put a second operating system on the drive... :whistling:

Then the fun would have really begun!
