My internet explorer is running extremely slow and I am getting a lot of errors on pages. I have done all the steps that you have listed and I am still having problems. I am also getting an error when I start my computer saying that the runner file "hp.exe" applications is missing "-". I don't know if that has anything to do with my computer running slow or not.

We need to move HijackThis! to it's own permanent folder to ensure that we don't lose its backups. To make a permanent folder, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Click Local Disk C:.
File | New | Folder
A new folder called New Folder will be created.
Rename New Folder to HJT or HijackThis. Now move HijackThis! into the new folder you just created.

You should know that you're actually doing more harm than good by running 2 Anti Virus programs. (AVG and Norton) When you do this both programs compete for resources, and the end result is neither does it's best and can cause system instability. I recommend that you choose the one you want to keep, update it, disable the other one, and use it as an on demand only scan occasionally.

Before beginning, you may want to save these instructions to Notepad or print them out for easier reference.

I see your Sun java is outdated. I strongly recommend you update your java and clear the Java cache:

Updating Java and Clearing Cache

1. Click Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
2. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
3. If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:

4. After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
5. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
6. There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked

7. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
8. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

One of the features of TrojanHunter is the TrojanHunter Guard used for resident memory scanning. We need to temporarily disable this, as it may interfere with the changes that need to be made during the fix.

To disable this feature, go to the TrojanHunter Guard icon.
(A light blue magnifying glass icon in the lower right corner of the screen.)
Right click it and select: Settings
Uncheck:
-Load at startup
-Enabled

You can re-enable TrojanHunter Guard once we are finished.

We need to uninstall these programs first to make it easier to get rid of leftovers later.
To do this : Click start > controlpanel > add/remove Programs and uninstall the following, if present :

MyWebSearch

Optional : LimeWire The older versions are known to have bad stuff bundled with it. If you have the new version, or the Pro version, it should be all right. Be CAREFUL what you download!

Reboot your computer

Use Cleanmgr to clean temporary files:

1. Click > start > run and type cleanmgr and click OK
2. Scan your system for files to remove.
3. Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
4. Click OK to remove those files.
5. Click Yes to confirm deletion.

I see you have Ewido onboard. Please make sure you have the latest updates, then run a scan for me, please. Post the results, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

I tried to do the update on Java but it kept saying to check the Internet Connection. I don't think I was successful in completing the update. I could not find MyWebSearch in the add/remove Programs. I think I was able to do everything else.

My computer still seems to be running slow and websites are not pulling up all the way, but they say they are done. I keep getting errors on pages.

Yes! You did it! This line : C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe says that you were successful. Please be sure to uninstall via add/remove programs any other versions of Java. Your computer is still vulnerable as long as the old versions remain.

Below I have included a number of recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously! These few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

Regularly go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. You should also turn on the Windows automatic update feature.

You should definitely maintain a firewall. Some good free firewalls are ZoneAlarm, or Outpost
