Hi
I have recently bought a 320gb Toshiba External HDD and a pci USB2 card . When I try and send data to my HDD it freezes the whole PC and I have to reset it via the switch. If I plug my external to one of my original USB1 slots on the motherboard it works fine but obviously a lot slower which is no good for backing up all my movies and music as it would take an age. Everything else seems to work fine on the USB2 PCI card like my modem and printer etc just not my HDD any help would be greatly appreciated as I have spent hours trying to find an answer on the net

Thanks

I am assuming you have installed drivers for the USB2 card.

Heres a microsoft article on the problem.

You might also check this website.

You may have to manually install the USB drivers if they are not Microsoft "signed" drivers. XP will usually ignore unsigned drivers and not bother installing them.
