I recently got my computer back from a tech. person.. all seemed fine when I got it back
Then I realized I had lost about 60% of my hard drive space, I went and analyzed my disk for defragmentation and there was A LOT of fragmented files.. I started defragmenting and when it was done it said some files couldnt be moved.. it stoped then I restarted my machine and now I get this Fatal System Error.. and says it has been shut down.. after awhile it restarts again and gives me the screen again.

Is there anyway I can fix this myself.. I'm broke and need my computer working before Monday.

hi,

when you were defragmenting, it was in the middle of defragmenting when it discovered the files that couldnt be moved. it then exited (or you restarted) in the middle of defragmenting since it could not continue, probably leaving file(s) with errors.

because it restarted, it then couldnt locate or run the needed file(s) to reboot properly, and you get the error stated. it then reboots ignoring the files with errors and continues.

what i would suggest is if you have XP home or Pro, is try going to start/my computer/right click the hard drive you attempted the defragment/properties/tools/select the "check now" button under error checking/ select the box "automatically fix file system errors" and click start.

after that is finished, restart your computer. then go all the way to the check now box/ select "scan for and attempt to fix bas sectors" this time, and click start.

it will prompt you on one the bad sectors check that it will do run the next time you restart your computer. if it does, click ok and restart right then.
