Hi
whenever i run spyonthis its scans so far then an error message appears which reads .. File C:ProgramFiles\Creative\uninstall\_user1.hdr. does not exist
The programme then freezes and I have to turn the computer off and reboot
I have a soundblaster live sound card which I have uninstalled and reinstalled and I have also uninstalled and re-installed spyonthis

Has anybody got any advice or ideas to solve this problem please

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD and Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

Windows File Protection will show an on screen blue progress bar which will simply disappear when the scan is complete, reboot when it does

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

Download, install and run Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up disc clean up

Run Tune Up registry clean up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

If no change

You will need a PC which can connect to the internet

Run all the programmes as advised then post a current Hijack This Log in a new topic in the Malware Forum

If you are unable to run any of the programmes, ask for advice in the Malware Forum

Hi again Keith

Before I try what you have suggested I wonder if you can help me with this. The problem seems to be with a file in Creative Software for my soundcard. I have uninstalled the programme from Add - Remove programmes then I ran a programme called Agent Ransack to find any Creative files. It found files that had not been removed by Add - Remove programmes and 1 of the directories it found was the 'Uninstall' directory which appears to be the problem. When I try and delete this folder it says unable to delete because the folder contains files and it will not delete. Can you advise me of how I can delete the unistall folder which may rectify my problem with SpyOnThis

Keith

I have tried the unlocker programme and it says the file is not locked so I take the option to delete it and it says file is deleted but it does not seem to get removed. If I uninstall the creative files when i reboot it finds the sound card hardware and re-installs it all.

Any furhter advice please

You may find that after using Unlocker and then rebooting you can right click the file, click delete and it will

MoveOnBoot says it will delete files on next boot, though usually after a reboot, you can still find the file, the difference being it will delete

I have this version, though the other one has a higher rating
