Hello,

I am trying to install Java or install InactiveX or something like that and when it says it is initiailizing installation is says 'windows is preparing to install'... and it will sit there FOREVER. Is there anyway that I can shut off 'windows' installer? Thanks for the future input : )

EDIT: oh yeah, and when it does the 'windows is preparing', it does that not only for inactivex and java, it does it for anything off of the internet (i can install DOOM 3 etc..)

Java and Active X are two different things. What are you trying to install? Do you need this for a specific reason? Your computer should already have Active X (it's a part of Windows) and you can check Java here: http://www.javatester.org/version.html

Permissions would be the next thing to check, but we need more info from you first.

Do you have any Java in Add/Remove in the Control Panel? If so, uninstall, reboot, and download and install from the Sun site. Check your security software and any ad blocking software to make sure Java has permission to run. There is also a group of settings in IE> Tools>Internet Options> Advanced that need checked.
