sound and video problems

Recently I have been experiencing slow and jerky video, and sound on my laptop. The problem occurs when playing games, watching video clips, and dvds, or listning to cds. The problems are not isolated to the dvd/cd rom drive on the lap top, they also occur when watching clips, and listning to music off of the internet.

If any one can help please do so.
