Ok I tried to insall software (not SP2 update) I got:

Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode or if Windows Installer is not correctly Installed

Thanks for your help

Download Dial-a-fix from http://fileforum.bet...ll/1131569373/2

When you download it, double-click on it to extract all of its files. Then open the folder it creates. Double-click on the file called Dial-a-fix.

Look at the middle-left section called MSI. Click on the box called Fix Windows Installer and make sure all of its sub-boxes are checked too.

Now, at the bottom-left corner, click on GO.

Restart your computer when it is finished fixing. Let me know if this solves your Windows Installer problem.

Click start then run, type regedit then press enter

Go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv\Security

DELETE the Security key

Reboot

I think it is takin a while because of your previous problem:

cannot backup registry key (access is denied)

Cancel it and do Keith's suggestion first. Afterwords, if you still have problems, do Dial-a-fix again.

I did what Keith said...then the update didnt work got:

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem

Then I tried Dial a fix and it still gets stuck on reregister

thanks

When did you first notice this Windows Installer problem?

i cant boot in safe mode

You can't boot into Safe Mode??

I think we've got a bigger problem here than just Windows Installer.
