1. Was able to double click on word or excel file and software would open right up along with document. Very fast.
2. Now document takes extreme amount of time. Very very slow.
3. However, when I open the application and then open the file through the application the file opens immediately.

Using:
Windows xp. Current with updates.
Zone Alarm. Current with updates.
Norton Anti Virus. Current with updates.
Weekly adaware scans with multiple products.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you add any of the products such as zone alarm nortons etc
Then start to have the problem?

Open NAV then options then misc and remove tick from enable office plug in
