Windows Media Player "Can Not Create DirectShow Player"

My windows media player got really messed up a few days ago, and it says and now when I try to do a system restore nothing pops up. It's just a blank box. I also have tried to run Norton Antivirus and when i try to scan for viruses its also a blank box.
