Cant install my new geforce 6800gs (gone to 8bit res!?)

Hi ive just bought a geforce 6800gs agp point of view, and ive messed up the installation for some unknown reason. I had a 9800 se AGP installed removed all ATI software, then turned off, took out, put 6800gs in, installed software, restart, and now i have the crapiest looking desktop EVER! Its gone to 640X480 (lowest 8bit)
and it can sometimes be changed to 800X600 8bit and thats it. Whats goin on? Ive tried reinstalling, unistalling system restore and nothing works.
