Symptoms: Lose broadband internet connection within five minutes of re-booting.

Repairs done: I have run Adaware, Spybot, and Highjackthis. I can not run any online virus scans, because I lose connection to quickly. I have removed some
cool web stuff, but I am thinking that my problem is with (023)vsmon.exe. I
did have ZoneAlarm installed, and it stopped working, which started this
whole thing. I have tried uninstalling it, but I keep getting errors that
it can not open vsmon.exe. When I try to delete vsmon.exe it says that
it is in use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new at this and all of my attempts have been based on info from this forum, so I hope that I haven't made the situation worse. Thanks
for any help.

Most definately. Also I need to correct my statement on the internet connectivity. It turns out that what I lose is my browser connectivity, I can still check email with out having to reboot. I don't know if this may shed some light on the problem, but my original symptom was incorrect. If you have any suggestions, please share them with me. Thanks

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ZoneLockup.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winsock32driver] ZoneLockup.exe

Ok, here it is, with some interesting notes from last night. After I completed the steps, I rebooted and my computer did not like what I did. I completely lost interenet connection, email too. My browser would say "detecting proxy..." and not do anything. Also, and I ha,e no idea why, I lost my cntrl-alt-dlt function. No matter how many times I did it, nothing would happen. As if that wasn't strange enough, I could not get into control panel. I could use everything in my start menu but control panel, wouldn't open, not even through windows explorer. Needless to say after a few hours of rebooting and trying what little I know, I just shut the computer down. This morning I was ready for round two, and what would you know everything seems to be working so far, so here is the log. Let me know if we need to do something else. Thanks again for the help.

More info, in the time that I booted the computer, checked email, clicked the link to this site, wrote my message, and pasted my log, I had lost browser connection. My email still seems to keep it's connection, just my browser still loses it after a little while. Just thought you may need the status.

O4 - Startup: AMF Daily Planner and PIM.lnk = L:\Program Files\PIM\amf.exe
O4 - Startup: Energizer FileSaver.lnk = C:\Program Files\Energizer FileSaver\Energizer Filesaver.exe

About losing internet connection: go back into Hijack This and put back these:

I do use both of the (04) programs. As for putting back the 2 trusted IP's, the computer is working the same without them as it did with them, no difference. Do you still recomend that I put them back? Also, not to get too far ahead, but what is your take on the vsmon.exe?

Try this:

Download the free VX2 Cleaner here[list]
Close Ad-Aware SE build 1.05 and Ad-Watch (if running)
Install the VX2 Cleaner
Start Ad-Aware SE build 1.05
Go to “Plug-ins”
Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click “Run Plugin”
If your computer isn't infected, click "close"
If your computer is infected:[list]
Select “Clean System”
Reboot your computer
Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
Remove any VX2 objects detected
Reboot your computer again
Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :tazz:
