how do i reformat my computer without losing all my files?

my friend advice me to reformat my computer but im quite anxious because imn afraid to lose all my important files.. having back-ups seem to be a burden for me

Hi drew_erin...

If you want to format, you will have to bare the burden of backing up your files...a format will completely remove them for you if you don't.

What is the nature of the problem that is prompting this format? There may be other options available to you.
