hello,
pc was acting a little "hinky" upon startup, first gave me os boot device not found, then got desktop, next attempt at startup i got the dreaded bois rom checksum error
did a little googleing and w/ my error, and found it might be possible to flash bios, i had done a bios update a few months ago so i had a system disk w/ flash utility and most recent bois on hand
when put into floppy i get

detecting floppy drive a meda
drive media is 1.44
automatic load awdflash.exe....
error awdflash.exe not found

the name of the flash utility is not awdflash.exe, but it did work when upgrading my bios when i had a good working system...

can i just rename the utility to awdflash.exe and give it a try?

any and all help will be appreciated,

thx

p.s. baby steps prefered......

p.p.s motherboard is a fic az11e

theoretically yes if you change the name it should automatically run it

batch files don't typically spontaneously rewrite themselves....

are you sure that is the write boot disk for the right machine?

thanks for the quick reply's, sorry for delayed response
the pc im posting from and changed the name of flash utility is old 98 maching w/ issues itself

dsenette, renaming the file to awdflash.exe didnt work

gerryf, ive only updated the bios on one machine ever the one in question, so i am sure its the correct floppy

maybe creating a new boot floppy w/ your input would be a better direction towards a solution

thanks again gents, awaiting any other ideas

This will rebuild the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system files

Boot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, give it a minute to arrive at the prompt with a flashing cursor then type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Press enter then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

When Windows has loaded, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools then run system file checker and replace any files it asks for from the 98 CD then reboot.

When it has loaded to the desktop, click start, programmes accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then run disc defragmenter from system tools

This part is optional

Download, install and run Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up disc clean up

Run Tune Up registry clean up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

method of flashing an Award BIOS is to automate it. By creating a prepared bootdisk with the flashing utility and the BIOS .bin file on it, you can create a bootable disk that will flash the BIOS and perform other functions for you without having you type anything. After you have created a bootable floppy, using you favorite text editor, open the autoexec.bat file located on the floppy disk. If one is not present then just save the file once you have created it to the floppy as autoexec.bat. The following code will completely automate the flashing procedure for you:

@echo off
if exist oldbios.bin goto old
awdflash.exe newbios.bin oldbios.bin /py /sy /cc /cp /cd /sb /r
goto end
:old
awdflash.exe oldbios.bin /py /sn /cc /cp /cd /sb /r
:end

The awdflash.exe is the name of the flashing program you are using. The newbios.bin is the name of the bios image you downloaded for you motherboard. The oldbios.bin file is the name of the bios you choose to save the old bios (your current BIOS) onto floppy as. IF your BIOS flash fails, the old BIOS is in backed up in oldbios.bin. You can just reboot with that floppy again and the process of flashing the bios to the old version is automatic. As long as the oldbios.bin is present on the floppy, it will get flashed to the BIOS. After flashing the BIOS to a newer version remember to remove the floppy from the drive. The process of flashing the BIOS is automatic, so if you leave the floppy in the drive it will flash the BIOS again.

The autoexec.bat should be edited like this

@echo off
awdflash.exe 6AJA4TB22.bin /py

^^^ number of the new bios .bin

keith thanks for the reply,
while waiting for said reply i started thinking (try to avoid it as i usually gets me into more problems)
and some googleing and found awdflash.exe made another system floppy w/ the awd flash utility and my vdc49.bin and i actually got the flash utility upon boot w/ the following

flash utility
flash type -
file name to program:vdc49 .bin_
message:

the _ after bin is the blinking cursor
i think(there i go again) that it may have just needed me to push enter

so after reading your last post i added an autoexec.bat to floppy as shown at end of your last post
@echo off
awdflash.exe vdc49.bin /py
rebooted and got the flash utility again, did not seem to work automatically like it should have

still trying and awaiting a reply

thanks
