Greets, I put this here only because all the settings from Windows were changed by something and although I am prety sure it was a malware program, I thought the folks here would be able to help find the old settings if they are even still there.
I installed a copy of Nero 7 given to me by a friend - OK don't shoot - I am only describing what happened - and yes I should know better.
I left the system on all night like I usually do but then had to clean my keyboard keys so I shut it down. When it came back up everything and I do mean everything had changed. The desktop, icons, IE settings, # of icons on the desktop et al. I thought I had accidentally logged on under another users settings it was SO different. There are no other users - I am it. There is a guest acct - not used - and an SQLDeBugger account for some databases I work on, but all of a sudden there was a duplicate account with my name on it. However, BOTH accounts in my name have teh exact same settings. I mean everything, even the taskbar quick launch is gone. It is as if someone or something wiped out my users settings under docs and settings. Even the location of teh "My Documents" folder - which I had placed on a diff partition has changed. All the files are still there but the default location is now the location and there are the three default folders in it. I even got the welcome to Windows splash when I started it back up. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Prayers? hahahaahaha - it really isn't funny cause I have had this machine a while and there were LOTS and LOTS of little changes that I had made over the years. And no, I have no recent restore points, and no recentr backups. I actually started on a backup the other day but had to switch to something else so I never got past the my docs folder backup. I would appreciate any insight. . . .
