I am having difficulties being able to communicate through Ventrilo. I can hear other people fine but they cannot hear me. My headphones have an attached mic both of which are plugged in correctly. I have enabled outgoing voice communications in ventrilo and also maxed the volume on my outbound. I'm using the push to talk feature and when i push the assigned button to talk ventrilo acknowledges (as do other people logged on) but no one can hear me. Fooling around with Ventrilo I noticed that when I click the "monitor" button in setup the report is "abszero" over and over again and when I run the "test" feature nothing happens. Is there anything else I need to do or any software or hardware I need to get my mic working properly?

If it helps in device manager under sounds, video, and game controller i have this listed:

Audio codecs
Legacy audio drivers
Legacy video capture devices
Media control Devices
SigmaTel C-major audio
Video codecs

Thank you in advance for any/all help.

have you gone into setup and run the "test" to see you can hear yourself?

Hello and thank you for your response. I just ran the test and I was not able to hear myself. :whistling: I've also borrowed a friends mic (which works on his computer) but to no surprise it did not work on mine. My assumption is that my computer lacks the driver or hardware so what is the next step on how I could get a mic to work? Thanks again, much appreciated!

This is how my vent is configured. you may or may not have to have codecs in the codec field. For my setup on this system they are not required. on my old pc they were.

Attached is a screenshot of my ventrilo setup. As you can see my devices are different from yours and I have four different options in codec: GSM 1.60, DSP Group Truspeech, Lernout & Hauspie, and finally Speex. I went through all four codec and ran a test but was still unable to hear myself. Hopefully the screenshot will help some.

It doesn't look like my attachment went through. Our screen shots are somewhat similar except with the differences in codec which I mentioned above and the "Output/Input devices" are both selected and have the option of "default directsound device" or "SigmaTel Audio" neither of which seem to have any effect. Underneath in the "hardware input mixer" I have "none" selected but with the option of again the "SigmaTel Audio". I still have no outbound communication when I try using the various codecs and/or the SigmaTel Audio as opposed to the default device.

Thanks again for your time, patience, and help.

set your config to you sigmatel audio.

are you plugging the mic to the mic port in back or to an aux. port on the front of your pc? If you know that the mic is plugged into the right slot you may have a hw issue.

go to control panel, sound, and check your configuration. make sure your mike isn't muted.

my mic is plugged into the only available microphone port and is not muted. If this is a hw issue like it seems to be what do you recommend for me to go about getting a working mic on my pc. thanks again
