Only reads new cds?

Hi there,
I have a small problem here...
my CD-RW (AOPEN 24x10x40) seems to read only some product cds, which tend to be newer programs...
I think this might have happened when I installed Windows XP. Is there anything I can do, or am I pretty much sunk on that old software?
