Hi beachbabe and welcome to the GTG forums. I apologize for not getting to your log ealier but we are all volunteers here and it has been very busy.

If you have a file on your desktop that is difficult to remove here are a couple of things to try to delete it.
  • Place the mouse over the file and hold down your left-mouse button. Drag the file to the Recycle Bin and release the mouse button. This should move the file into the Recycle Bin for deleting.
  • If the above did not work the create a new folder on your desktop and move the file into the folder using the same dragging technique described above. Then delete the folder.
  • Start Windows Explorer and navigate to:c:\documents and settings\<your logon>\desktop
and delete the file directly.
Post back here with the results of your attempts.

Cheers.

The 3 methods did not work. However, I used KillBox.exe and it deleted the Crack22.exe file from my desktop. After emptying my Recycle Bin, i hope my system is now clean. Here's my new Log as follows:

Hi beachbabe. As far as your log goes I see no signs of infection or malware at this time. I do, however, see that your operating system is extremely out of date. In this condition you leave yourself open to many security holes that the latest Service Pack 2 has fixed. I strongly recommend that you see the link below regarding Windows Updates and immediately apply SP2. After that return to the Windows Update site and apply any available Critical Updates. Without regularly updating your operating system you are an easy target for many of the viruses and hijackers that could otherwise be stopped.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs: SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and IESpy-Ad. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

You should also have a good firewall like ZoneAlarm or Kerio Personal Firewall (both are free) and a good anti-virus application like the one you are currently running. It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your system up to date and clean visit Windows Update monthly, run AdAware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
