I have AVG Anti-Virus and I did a complete system scan and it said that Trojan horse Dropper.Small.28.AU had infected one file in drive C and 2 files in drive D. I was able to fix the file in drive C, but it's unable to fix the 2 files in drive D. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

Thank you,

Nire

Hi nire, welcome to geekstogo. Sorry for the delay, the malware forum is very busy, and there simply are not enough helpers. My name is Ryan, and I will be helping you fix your computer.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan. You will need to use Internet Explorer to run it.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
If you would please, rescan with HijackThis, along with the contents of the ActiveScan report, and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :whistling:

Oh, and can you please turn off the word wrap in Notepad. It is wraping the lines weird, and it makes it difficult for me to analyze.

Nothing is showing up. There is one thing I need you to do though.

Update Java and Clear Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
Can you tell me what files are infected and the paths to them? Once I know that, we can try a few things to get rid of them. If you do not know the files / paths, that is OK, just let me know.

1. D:\i386\apps\APP00153\App00153.exe:\hp\bin\CorelWp\src\intro.exe
*infected, embedded status

2. D:\i386\apps\APP00153\App00153.exe
*infected, archive status

Since these files are on D: I can't get access to them. I suspect it's applet related because I got this "thing" when I was trying to view some applets on a website. I updated Java and followed the rest of the directions. If there's anything else you need let me know :whistling:

Thanks,

nire

Sorry for the delay, it has teken me longer to research this than I thought.

I need to know 2 things before I can give anymore instructions.

1. Who isyour computer's manufacturer (Dell,, HP, Compaq, etc.) ?
2. Why can't you get into the D: drive?

AVG is aware of this file (http://forum.grisoft...0,backpage=,sv=), and based on the path, it is looking like a false-positive, but they need a sample of the file to make sure.

My computer is a Compaq, and drive D has backup files of the operating system (plus software that Compaq installed) should my computer crash. It was like that when I bought it. AVG basically said it could not get at those files to fix them when I ran the scan. Could you tell me more about this potential false-positive and what they would do with a sample of the file?

The file looks like it is part of the WordPerfect installation files. Do you have WordPerfect installed on your computer?

When Grisoft gets a copy, they will analyze it. If they are certain that it is a false positive, then it would be added to AVG's ignore list.

Please go to My Computer, and right click on the D: drive. Click Open. Let me know if you see any folders with a padlock icon.

OK, I think I know how to get that file.

Highlight and copy the following command (in bold): chdir "D:\i386\apps\APP00153\"

Please go to Start > Run and type cmd and press OK

The command prompt will open. Click on the icon at the top (looks like a little command promt window), and go to Edit > Paste. Press enter, and it should change the directory.

Highlight and copy: copy App00153.exe C:\

Once you have recieved the " 1 file(s) copied." message (or an error message), type exit and press Enter.

Now go to your C: drive. There should be a file called App00153. If that file is 5 MB or less, please email to me at Thank you for the file

Please let me know when you have emailed it to me, or if there are any errors along the way.

WordPerfect was one of the programs installed by Compaq (trial program). I deleted it, but its files were still in drive D (there were padlocks for some of the folders in drive D, including i386).
I got the error message in command prompt "The sytem cannot find the file specified". I ran a search in drive C for App00153 and found a file that fit that description. I've emailed that to you.

Thanks,

I got the file; unfortunately, it is not the one that is needed. Let's try getting it another way; hopefully this one will work.

Please download Suspicious File Packer to your desktop. Once it has finished, extract sfp.exe onto the desktop.

Double click the sfp.exe (the one on your desktop). Once it is open, you should see a box where you can enter text. Please copy and paste the following into that box:

D:\i386\apps\APP00153\App00153.exe

Click Continue. There should now be a icon that looks like a file cabinent, it will have a filename of requested-files[date, time]. Please email me that file.

In the meantime...

You have nothing to worry about. I have talked with others about this file, and they also believe that this is a false-positive. Getting this file submitted to Grisoft will allow them to add it to AVG's ignore list.

Thank you for letting me know about the file size.

Open the requested-files.cab file, and drag the App00152.exe file onto you desktop. Double click the file once it has copied, and let it run (it will extract its contents)

After it has finished...

Double click the sfp.exe (the one on your desktop). Once it is open, you should see a box where you can enter text. Please copy and paste the following into that box:

C:\hp\bin\CorelWP\src\intro.exe

Click Continue. There should now be a icon that looks like a file cabinent, it will have a filename of requested-files[date, time]. Please email me that file (or let me know if it is too big).

Thanks for emailing me. Unfortunately, there was no file in the cab.

Since this is a false positive, and Grisoft is aware of it, I see no need to pursue this any further.

Thank you for trying to get the file. You can safely ignore any reports from AVG about this file.

I will leave this thread open for a few days in case you have any questions.

Sounds fine, as long as it's not going to pose any threat. I too noticed there was no file in the cab. My one question would be, why wasn't I able to find the last one? Well, thanks for you help.

Oh, I have one more question, when I copied (then unzipped) App00153 to my desktop it opened up a folder with 2000+ files in it. Would there be any way to identify any of the (smaller) files in that folder so they could be sent to AVG in order to clear up this false-positive?

Since that file was the only one that AVG was flagging, none of the other files would be of help.

There are a few reasons why that file wouldn't be there... the first one that comes to mind is that I gave you the wrong path to paste (as I don't have a HP/Compaq and wasn't able to see how the archive extracts), and the next one being that AVG quarenteened / deleted it before it could be copied.
