dvd-rw drive being detected as cdrom, and cant burn anything

hi im having a problem with my dvd-rw which is a philips lightscribe an its just detecting it as a standard drive and not a dvd-rw for some reason, could it be the bios needs updating, im really not sure any help would be appreciated.
