Hello leeous,

Please disable SpySweeper's real-time protection, so it will not interfere with the fix:Open SpySweeper and click Options | Program Options.
Uncheck Load at windows startup.
Over to the left click Shields.
Uncheck Home page shield and Automatically restore default without notification.
You can reenable it once your system is clean.

It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

1. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

2. Please update ewido security suite
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates
Don't run it yet.

3. Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
4. Boot into safe mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8.
A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

5. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmdSelect option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart again manually.
5. Run HijackThis and check the following entries, if still present:O2 - BHO: Nothing - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpD92D.tmp
Close all open windows EXCEPT HIJACKTHIS and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

6. Run Ewido anti-malware:
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
    • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
      # This means you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
      # If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
      # DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
      # If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Save it to your Desktop.
7. Restart your computer in Normal Mode.

8. Run an onlinescan with Panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
9. Post the contents of the Panda scan report in your next reply along with a new HijackThis Log,
the report from Smitfraud fix, wich you can find here: C:\rapport.txt, and the ewido log by using Add Reply.

Greetings,
BMThor

Good job, Lee!! That log looks clean again... :whistling:

Using Windows Explorer find and delete this file (in bold) : C:\Documents and Settings\Lee Mainprize\Application Data\the book\sjeumxyg.exe

Also, I want to check something more.. :

* Open Notepad and copy and paste next in it:dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save this as findjobs.bat, choose to save it as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on op findjobs.bat and post the content of the txtfile you get in your next reply.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #4 - Generic Renos Fix by typing 4 and pressing Enter.
The program will scan and fix the Registry and delete corresponding infected files on your computer, please be patient while it works.
The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.
Please post that log in your next reply as well.

Greetings,
BMThor

Hello Lee,

We're nearly there. :whistling:

1. Download roguescanfix_setup.

Doubleclick roguescanfix_setup to install it.

After the installation, you will be prompted if you would like to run roguescanfix now. Click "YES" to start the tool.
When you start roguescanfix.bat you'll see a menu:1. Run Roguescanfix
2. Run sharedtasksrem
Choose option 1 by typing "1".

Note: This tool needs internet connection because it downloads an additional file to let the tool work properly.
If your firewall gives an alert, allow it instead of blocking it.
In case you still get the message BFU.exe is not present, download BFU.zip from here.
Unzip it and place BFU.exe in the c:\program files\roguescanfix-folder. Then doubleclick Roguescanfix.bat again.

The tool will uninstall some programs and delete related files and registrykeys.
When some files won't get deleted, it will ask you to reboot your system to delete the files after reboot.
Please make sure the uninstall of the programs are finished before you click Yes to reboot.

A textfile wil open. Place the contents of that file in your next reply.
(The textfile can also be found at c:\program files\roguescanfix\task.txt)

2. Open Notepad and copy and paste next in it:%systemdrive%
cd %WinDir%\Tasks
attrib -r -s -h F14107D4871ECF70.job
del F14107D4871ECF70.job

Save this as remjobs.bat, choose to save it as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on op remjobs.bat.

Are you experiencing any more problems?
Gretings,
BMThor

Hello Lee,

That's good news. :whistling:

Do you have the textfile from roguescanfix for me?

It appears you do NOT use an active antivirus program? :
If so, download, install, and update AVG 7.1.
Run it and let it perform a full system scan.

-----------------

Below I have included some recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously ; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

1. Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ on a regulare basis and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer.
This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

2. It is important that you use a software firewall, to prevent unauthorised traffic both out of and into your computer.
Your log doesn't show a firewall running. If you have disabled it, please re-enable it.
If you do not have a firewall installed, please download and instal one of these excellent (and free) products: Sygate
Kerio
Tiny Personal Firewall
Outpost
It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time.
A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found here.

3. In order to protect yourself better against spyware, you should consider installing and running some of the following free programs:Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

IE/Spyad
Places over 5000 dubious websites and domains in your IE's restricted zone.
Make sure to keep your antispyware programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

4. Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is very good and more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has a built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) . If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place
and/or Grinlers tutorial on how malware is hidden and installed
Hopefully this should take care of your problems!

Hello Lee,

Your log looks fine. :whistling:

Maybe cleaning up would speed things up a bit? :
Defragmenting your C-drive is advisable as well.

Your email problem might be firewall related.
Did you check your settings? Try a temporarily disable, can you send your mail now?

Greetings,
BMThor
