Hi Don and welcome back. After reviewing your log I see no viruses or malware present at this time. You do, however have a number of programs starting at Windows bootup that are unnecessary and can cause systems to run slower. I will walk you though these programs and we will use MsConfig to stop them from starting up. If, in the future, you decide that you do want one or more of these programs to run you can simply reverse these directions.
  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Type msconfig.exe
  • Click on the Startup tab
  • Find the following items in the Command list and click in the checkbox in front of each one to clear it:
    • "C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server
    • C:\Program Files\Creative\ShareDLL\CtNotify.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Creative\Audio\PROGRAM\CTMIX32.EXE /t
    • "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    • "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    • "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
    • C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0\aoltray.exe
    • C:\Program Files\CConnect\CConnect.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
  • Now click the Apply button and reboot
Here is a description of what each of the above startup programs do:
  • tgcmd.exe - See also TgAddServer. This part ensures the software is installed correctly (similar to an installation wizard) as reported by Cox. Regarded as spyware by some as it has the ability to retrieve user information. Whether it does so depends upon the provider. "tgcmdprovidersbc" is for SBC Yahoo DSL. One Toshiba user reports problems with hibernate on his laptop if disabled - hence the "U" recommendation
  • CtNotify.exe - For Creative sound cards. Detects when you insert a CD, DVD, etc. Not required.
  • CTMIX32.EXE - Creative soundcard System Tray access to, for example, volume slider controls as normally provided by the "speaker" icon. Not required unless you adjust any settings otherwise available via the standard icon
  • qttask.exe - System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards. You will also need to disable this in the QuickTime Preferences menu for it to remain off.
  • realsched.exe - Application Scheduler installed along with RealOne Player. Once installed, it runs independently of RealOne Player. Not required - see here for more information, including how to disable it
  • msmsgs.exe - Windows Messenger utility. If you don't use Windows Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to Windows Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts"
  • WkDetect.exe - Checks for updates to MS Works
  • aoltray.exe - Puts AOL icon in System Tray (9.0 denotes version). Connect to AOL via the desktop shortcut or Start -> Programs
  • CConnect.exe - Broadband ISP diagnostic tool - as used by NTL and Cox Communications. Shortcut available
  • OSA9.EXE - Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. It's somewhat of a resource hog, and some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it usually isn't required. Note - if you make use of the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar outside an office program this application will need to be enabled for it to show
None of the above programs are required at bootup. They simply pre-load applications or processes. Personally, I don't have any of the programs load at bootup on my machine. Each one can be loaded when needed through a Start Menu item or shortcut.

Post back with any questions that you might have.

Cheers.
