Hi there! I've been recently having some troubles with my computer. This red X stays in my taskbar and keeps popping up, saying "Warning! Your computer is probably infected. Microsoft Corporation recommends you to check your computer on the spyware presents. Click here to download updates". I've ran Ad-Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Doctor, and nothing has helped. Please help me out! Thanks in advance.

I'll post my HijackThis log here:

Step 1

First, I need you to upload a couple of files.

Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\inet20026\winlogon.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
Repeat this process, this time copy and paste this file path c:\windows\system32\msmsn.exe

Step 2

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {196B9CB5-4C83-46F7-9B06-9672ECD9D99B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winbrume.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: 20242402reg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: gdwxp3 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gdwxp3.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: polymorphreg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: s_reg - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\notifysb.dll
O21 - SSODL: DCOM Server - {2C1CD3D7-86AC-4068-93BC-A02304BB8C34} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winbrume.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gdwxp3.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\notifysb.dll

After that, Reboot.

Step 3

Please download ewido anti-malware it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido anti-malware
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido anti-malware.

Please post back with the Jotti results, the Ewido report.txt and a new HijackThis log

Hi! Thanks for your reply! I followed the steps that you told me to do. It seems that the Jotti results turned up nothing, because I don't think the files exist. Also, during the HijackThis scan, I tried to remove the objects that you told me to do, but it seems that

O20 - Winlogon Notify: 20242402reg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: polymorphreg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll

won't seem to delete. Also, when I rebooted into safemode and deleted the items using Windows Explorer,

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll

could not be found at all. Could this be some sort of connection? Anyways, I will post the Ewido Scan and the HijackThis Log. And once again, thank you so much for any help that is provided! I really appreciate it! :whistling:

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit, and Save it to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

Re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: 20242402reg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: polymorphreg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winjnr32 - winjnr32.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\20242402.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\polymorph.dll

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Please post back with a new HijackThis log.

Hi there! I did what you said, yet it seems that the items you tell me to delete in HijackThis refuse to be deleted. The X popup has gone away, but a new one has come up. It now has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point that says "Urgent System Message: Virus! Your computer is infected with the last version of internet trojan (iworm_attck_v122.02a) It is highly recommended that you intstall antivirus software. Click the icon for more information." Sometimes they switch on and off, and lately I have been getting many ad popups and other things, even though I clean my computer with three different spyware/adware programs a day, which has normally never happened to me before. Once again, thank you for taking your time to help me!

Here is my HijackThis log:

Step 1

First, Download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing WebHancer.

To Get rid of WebHancer, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

WebHancer (There may be multiple entries.)

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing WebHancer, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. Check the "I know what I'm doing" button. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

Step 2

Download Brute Force Uninstaller to your C:\
Unzip it to a folder of its own (C:BFU).
  • BFU should be on your root. In most cases this is C:
  • Download qoofix.bat (rightclick on this link and choose save as)
  • Place qoofix.bat in your C:BFU - folder. (Important!)
  • Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
  • Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
  • Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
  • After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.
Step 3

We are going to use killbox again for this part of the fix. Make sure that it is still on your desktop.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Drivers to unload:
NTBOOTMGR
NTLOAD
NTSVCMGR

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atmclk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cknup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\inet20026\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfuxady.exe
C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\inicfg32.dl
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntuser.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntsrv.exe

Folders to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\inet20026
C:\Program Files\E2G

Programs to launch on reboot:
C:\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Hi darkshadow1227, no worries about a delay :whistling:

Okay, we are getting there, please follow these instructions (I suggest you copy and paste them to notepad and save to your desktop, for use in safe mode):

Go to START > RUN, and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes), and press OK
IN the window that opens, look for a service named "NTBOOTMGR"
Double click it to open the service properties, and under "Service Status", click "Stop"
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • click on "delete an NT service"
  • Copy and paste this in: NTBOOT
  • Click "ok", then reboot
Next, re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\system32\cknup.exe
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inet20026\winlogon.exe
O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - (no file)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: inicfg32.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: artm_newreg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\artm_new.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: NTBOOTMGR (NTBOOT) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntuser.exe (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

E2G
(It might be E2Give or somthing similar)

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cknup.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\inet20026\winlogon.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfuxady.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\inicfg32.dll

Although your log is looking much better, your machine is still infected, lets take this approach:

Please download E2TakeOut by Rubber Ducky from HERE:
  • Extract the file to your Desktop
  • Double click E2TakeOut.exe
  • Click the Begin Removal button
  • Wait until the program is finished scanning
  • Once done, it will produce a popup stating that the infection has been found and you need to reboot you computer to complete the removal
  • Reboot your computer
  • Once your computer has rebooted E2TakeOut will open and produce a report
  • Please copy/paste that report into your next reply
If you have removed "Filefind" from your desktop, then please download it again.
Please download FileFind from Atribune.
Unzip the file and save it to your desktop.

To run FileFind, please do the following:
  • Click on FileFind.exe
  • In the box labeled "Directory"
    • Enter Drive eg.. C:\
  • In the box labeled "File"
    • Enter the file mfuxady.exe
  • Now click on the "Search" button
  • Once the utility has found the files click on "Export"
  • A Notepad will open up. Please copy the entire contents of the Notepad and paste them here.
  • NOTE: The notepad is saved on your C:\ drive as "Export.txt"
