I need help on selecting a graphics card.

I want to be able to play World Of Warcraft, Battle For Middle Earth and games like that on my pc

Can anyone please tell me of any graphics cards that could cope with the above games

First thing its not that simple. We need to know what expansion slot you have available on your pc for a new video card. Do you have an agp slot or a Pci Express slot or is you computer one of the types that only has regular old pci slots??

We need to know that or you cannot be shure you get the right video card.

According to Everest Home I have - 3 x PCI, 1 x AGP and 1x CNR.

I am aware of the PCI and AGP but I dont know what CNR is.

Okay now that we know its an agp slot, about how fast is your pc and what are the specs of it. We need to know this to figure out the best card for your rig. Also, what is your budget on a video card.


How big is your powersupply also, thats always good to know.

• PSU - I dont know the rating but its one you get with a pc from PC WORLD

You didnt list your budget on a video card but get something like this card....

Thats a good deal for a 6800xt...

Dont buy a 6600gt because they run the same price as a 6800xt and sometimes more while they are slower.

Something like an nvidia 6800xt or an ati x800xl would do you fine.. I would not get any slower of a video card as you will then have trouble running the games in the future..

You need to make shure you have *AT LEAST* a 300 Watt power supply which isnt that much really but some manufacturers put 250W or 200W just to make shure, pull off the side panel of your case and look at the sticker on the side of your powersupply. It will tell you what watts the powersupply is right on the sticker..

For that money you can get an x1600 pro not a 1300, youll struggle to find an nvidia for under £100, x800xl can run £90 now and are a steal, only difficulty these days is finding AGP cards in that range alot of places havent stocked new agp cards on a while and the ones they do are really cheap or really expensive.

Piece of cake with pci-e to get cards your gonna have to shop around. Try looking in the shops though rather than manufacturers sites.

Look for a x1600pro or above..

Dont get a x1600 series below the x1600pro because the x1600 is not a good card... the x1600pro is pretty nice though and the x1600xt is even better...

A 6800xt 256mb is nice and is all you would need, I saw one but cant remember which of those two sites it was on. They were out of stock on it though it fits your budget..

Look for one of these in my opinion...


x1600pro, x1600xt, 6800xt or x800xl any of those are fine...

Yeah thats a good deal to me but I live in the usa and im not too good on prices in the UK. For what you are getting thats about the best you will be getting for the money besides an nvidia 6800xt..

As a World of Warcraft player I feel I must point out that the game doesn't require too much in terms of the video card(although I do suggest getting a good one for other games). But if you only have 512 MB of RAM you'll want to get another 512 MB. RAM is pretty cheap nowdays. Believe me, the RAM will help immensely. If you have less than 1024 MB of RAM you get terrible slowdown in big cities like Stormwind and Ironforge.

cool glad you found a decision..

I wasnt going to bring it up about the memory, but the above guy is right. 1gb of total memory for the pc would help you out alot in games and performance also.

For your next upgrade you might want to upgrade your memory.
