A client would like to be able to edit in Excel in "A3 format".

Ie: page breaks etc where they should be for an A3 spreadsheet...


Is this possible (when you don't have a printer that supports A3)? I didn't think it was, but the client insisted that she believes there is a way...

I understood that you have an A3 printer, you can automatically adjust the spreadsheet to fit this (via page set up), but if you don't, it's not possible...

The client said that she was sending the document to her husband to print off. My understanding is that, as he has a printer that prints A3, he will be able to adjust excel to A3 in his paper set up, but my client won't be able to...

Please advise - i need to respond to the client asap!

she should just be able to go to file > page setup > and change the page size to a3...irrespective of the printer's capabilities as the page setup dialog doesn't really have the printer settings in there...

and if not...she can set the document to tabloid (11X17) as it's pretty darned close to a3 (11.69 x 16.54)

Which version of excel are you using ?

I am using Excel 2003 and I can't replicate what you are suggesting.

In all cases that I have tested in the past the Paper Size in the Page Setup dialogue has been limited by the maximum capability of the selected printer.

Despite what I have mentioned above I was able to find a way to setup in A3 with only an A4 printer attached.
I am using Windows XP Home and Office 2003.

I have 3 printer destinations available (only 1 physical printer)
>> Epson (A4 only) >> Fax >> Microsoft Office Document Image Writer

When the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer is selected the Paper Size dropdown allows selection of A3.

I am guessing this is the key to how your client managed this in the past.

Yes I couldn't find the options either, and was using Excel 2003 on XP professional.

Excellent. I thought there must have been a reason for her believing that it can be done... she is a home - worker, using xp home with Excel 2003, but was in the office at the time. I'm not sure whether she has a printer at home, so could have well been on the Doocument image viewer when she'd tried in the past!!
