My story isn't unlike the rest posted here. My niece clicked on a link in an IM from someone she didn't know (who promised to help her with her homework). Obviously, it downloaded a plethora of mischievious items. NAV went bonkers and the PC finally froze up. It currently limps along, IE seems to have a mind of it's own. Here is what I have done and my list of problems.

1. Ran the most current version of Adaware SE, utilizing your custom options.

2. Attempted to run Housecall, but it froze up and Housecall will no longer start. Incidently, while Housecall was running, IE popped up the Housecall homepage. :tazz: I was able to run Panda's virus check, it found 60 items and fixed 2.

3. Ran windows update.

Here are some of my issues:

1. I suspect that my NAV is corrupt, it always finds nothing and it will not allow me to do live updates. I don't know how to fix this.

2. I am missing COMMCOSS.DLL, which ME tells me is missing at startup.

3. The egg timer next to my pointer is constantly flashing (this drives me crazy).

4. IE has a mind of it's own popping up all the time.

5. If I leave my PC running, it gets incredibly slow (even if the cable line has been disconnected).

6. I get multiples of files in my task manager: ie, kernel32.dll, devldr16.exe.

Hopefully you can help this novice get on my way to fix some of these problems. Take it easy on me, my only computer class was 20 years ago on the Apple IIe... ;) THANKS!

Hi garden_gal

You do have quite a collection there.

Could you please download trail evaluation version of The Cleaner from http://www.moosoft.com

You also need to download and install the updates. The instructions for doing this are on the site.

Run a full scan with that and let it fix whatever it can. Reboot on completion.

Then do an on line scan here http://www.bitdefend...can/licence.php

Check Autoclean and Heuristics. Save the log from that scan. Reboot when that is finished.

Then do a new HijackThis log and post that in this thread along with any information from the scans you just did. Please don't post the bitdefender log just yet - they are very long and usually only parts of them are required.
