I have a windows Xp computer and I would like to schedule scandisk at 11:00 pm every night. The problem I'm facing is that XP will not me let me check my hard drive stating that the drive is in use and that scandisk will run the next time i restart my PC. Restarting my PC is not an option. Is there any other DOS utility that would let me accomplish this. How do server administrators do it?

they don't, really

chkdsk cannot run on a computer when there are open handles (files open)

why is rebooting not an option? And why do you want to run chkdsk so regularly? It really is not necessary to run it unless there is a problem that needs fixing.
