I just purchased a 300GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 hard drive.

Basically my intention is to install Windows XP Home on my Maxtor and make it the primary Master. Then I want to make my current hard drive (160GB) the primary slave.

When I boot up with the windows XP installation CD, I get to the partitions page and it says unpartitioned space 131062mb's.

So basically...where has the rest of my 300GB's gone?

Help greatly appreciated :whistling:

Two possibilites A. you have the drives jumper set to clip it down to 130Gb or you are using a pre SP1 windows which couldnt see more than 130Gb its one or the other its a common problem. Unclipping the drive and/or installing sp2 will fix it.

Maxtor site should have a large hard drives patch as sp2 cannot be relied on to see hard drives bigger than 137 gb

You might want to check out:

http://www.maxtor.co...s&downloadID=58

It might work well if you want to copy your existing install to the new drive.
