I have had very little problems with toshiba drives. I'm still using a old 5 giger for a external data backup drive wheni need to save some data and reinstall windows on computers. I also still have a Toshiba Portage 660 pentium 150 laptop running with a 1.2 gig drive in it. That tells me something about toshiba laptop drives. The only bad one i've seen is one a bought off ebay and it was dead when i got it. You win some and lose some.

Performance wise i can't really tell you. Almost all laptop drives are 5400 rpm so they will be slower than the 7200 rpm desktop drives. Drives are drives to me. As long as they work that is all i need. If your willing to spend the money get a 7200 rpm drive for performance.
