Really if someone says something or does something unprofessional on the ptich then you deserve whats coming to you, personally it would be as well just letting them slug it out everyonce in a while, they are profesional male athletes its not like they going to settle differences naturally with tea and crumpets and a good conversation.

Sometimes its good to remind people that men are men and sometimes we get pretty angry when you wind us up, violence isnt the answer all the time but sometimes its just fun and if its your last game and some muppet insults you then i would have stuck the head in him as well.

Personally i would have went for the head but the chest but was classic. What a wimp though just dives to the ground, thats some good trainging diving muscle memory in action.

Well, I read this, and if it's true, that italian SERIOUSLY was out of line.

Brasilian televisio-company Globo's lipreading (not sure if thats the right term - trying to translate here) experts say that Materazzi sweared Zidane, and that he insulted Zidane's sister as a prostitute.

Additionally, Materazzi insulted Zidane as "filthy terrorist" and said that he shouldn't have the right to play for France because of his algerian background.

Materazzi denies it all, naturally.

If thats what he said, Zidane's reaction was completely correct, IMO. :whistling:

Okay, as a casual US fan, this game kind of illustrates what's wrong with soccer. What's with all the Prima donna's taking swan dives if anyone brushes their shins? Then they come out with a team of doctors that would make any ER jealous and a stretcher -- whether needed or not. And a head butt to the chest? He got kicked out for that? What harm will that inflict? Were they playing for the World Cup, or an Oscar nomination?

Something also has to be done about using penalty kicks to decide a game. Goalies have to guess. It's strictly a game of chance. They might as well flip a coin. Pitty they play all that time to have a game decided like that. A tie would have been better. At least the Italians weren't able to defeat the American's. It was a tie.

There's an old joke about hockey, "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out". I think there's a new one, "I went to watch grass grow, but a soccer match got in my way". :whistling:

Lol, well penalty ties arent that common in normal soccer, and brawls are also more common in normal soccer. The diving is a problem there is to much bias on what the referee sees the problem is its his desicion and apart from the linesman he doesnt get any help at all, if he doesnt see it no foul and if you make it look bad enough and he didnt see it all then foul. You only get the star injury treatment at the big games, the kinda football that people watch regularly if you go down your lucky to get the magic sponge if you cant walk you limp off, none of this massages on the pitch for cramps lark.

Although you cant have that level of violence on a pitch normally, he could have theoretically broken the other guys breast bone he certainly looked like he winded the guy. Was a decent headbutt, he would do well in Scotland a guy with his strength i bet it hurt, mind you if he said what they think he said he got off lightly i woulda hammered the guy.

With the pace of the game after 120minutes the players are all pretty much dead apart from a brief half time they dont get much of a break its a long time to play especially at the pace they do. And its only at big competitions where there has to be a winner, the rules of the world cup mean there has to be a winner as its not one on points but progression.

Italy are playing Scotland for the Euro 2008 qualifier and if Scotland follows tradition they will beat italy. Everytime scotland has played the worl champions after the world cup they have won the game.

:help: Had to post this here.

Quoted from KotaGuy

Was a pretty good head butt though... I gave it a 8.5. Still think he should've followed it up with an elbow drop and went for the pin!

Yeah i would finished it off, elbow drop or leg drop woulda been good maybe just giving him a kicking, i think he was enjoying watching him squirm on the ground though.

Apparently Chirac congratulared him on the game and the head butt, probably for proving that not all french are surrender monkeys, apparently its just chirac.

According to the news FIFA might use new rules against racial and religous slurs to disqualify Italy, they are currently running an investigation into the incident, imagine how bad you would feel losing the world cup for being an [bleep].

To be honest football isnt what it used to be. Every player in football dives no matter what teams more than others. Portugal are probs one of the worst as you can tell im an England fan C.Ronaldo is the biggest cheater in football he dives all the time. Italy would have won anyway even if Zidane wasnt sent off. For Racism they should be banned from the world cup as FIFA are trying to get rid of racism and with that its helping it from not working.

That's a big IF. Buffon wasn't good on penalties, neither was Barthez. All of the goals went in, except for that kick on the post by that french player (don't remember the name). Zidane would've been on the field on the penalties, if he hadn't been sent off and he would have probably got a goal out of that kick.

Rawe, you're thinking of Trezeguet and if it wasn't for Buffon Italy wouldn't have even made it onto penalties. Anyway, France only went 1 up because they got a penalty which was the most obvious dive ever. He wasn't even touched, and Italy's second goal, the player that was offside didn't touch the ball and, according to FIFA's new rules the ball is only offside if it is touched by an offside player.

Anyway, about Zidane. Materazzi said, according to Italian newspapers "Une filia de puta" or something which means "Son of a prostitute" and in Italy that isn't offensive. Zidane should know that after he's playing in Serie A for Juventus. What I don't understand is that, when De Rossi elbowed an American nobdy asked De Rossi if the American said anything which he might have done. Sentence removed for offensive content, and racial slur. This type of thing will NOT be tolerated at GeeksToGo

I don't know why but nobody can take Italy winning. They hope they lose because they know that when Italy is on form ( The match against Germany - what a game ) they can beat any team out there and they proved that, so I think instead of talking about Zidane and Materazzi, why not just say well done Italy and leave it. You Americans talk about Materazzi because you didn't even get through the group stages.

The only people that deserve to get headbutted are you people that can't take losing so you have to talk about the winning team. Maybe if Zidane headbutted him there and then it would have been normal but he turned round, ran off, looked for the referee then headbutted him. He only headbutted Materazzi because he was stressed. Materazzi was on him the whole game and barely let him touch the ball. I think, that instead of watching the news you people should actually WATCH the game

I don't care what Materazzi said,

WELL DONE ITALY!!!!!!!!!!

When a thread disintegrates into racial slurs, it is time for me to step in and shut it down. This thread has now crossed the line, and the end is now.
