Cant turn off computer from Start>Tun off Computer

Recently my computer was infected by a virus which I have now successfully deleted.Now whenever I try to shut down windows from the starts menu>turn off computer,the machine does not respond.But when I do the same from log off.. ,I can shut it down.
Can someone give me a solution to this problem??
