San Andreas will install but wont start up

I've installed my legit copy of GTA San Andreas but everytime i try to start it up the monitor goes black, as if it was going to go into the game, then a cuple seconds later it goes back to desktop and nothing's changed. I've checked and i have more than the recommended hardware requirements. I bought it from London so i'm pretty sure that its the euro version.
