I ran chkdsk again.

I'm not sure how long it ran because I went to sleep but it wasn't more than eight hours.

Now I'm having trouble with my media.

It isn't so bad with audio but with video there's a lot of crackling noise and stopping as well.

It's like there is some other process running that's taking up a lot of memory.

I've run a virus check (nothing) and gotten rid of what little spyware there was but the problem remains.

what I mneant is when you ran chkdsk /r, it also runs chkdsk /p

chkdsk /p is like chkdsk /r "lite"

you cannot run it from anything but the recovery console

It wouold not hurt to to reinstall the audio and video drivers

This is the video drivers website.

How do I know what's compatible with my system.

Why machines get too hot varies

Not enough fans, poorly calibrated sensors

Inadequate cooling on the CPU

download Everest Home

http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=13

unzip it, install it, and then save a report and ATTACH it to your next post.

To do this, go to FILE > SAVE AS

put it on your desktop and give it a file name

Now click the ADD REPLY button on the bottom of this thread, click the BROWSE button beneath the text bo and navigate to your desktop, select your file and click the OPEN button, and then click the ADD THIS ATTACHMENT button next to the BROWSE button

Click Add reply button

The video folder has two folders in it. One labelled VIA one labelled ATI.

your everst report does say it is VIA/S3G KM400/KN400, so Via it is

apparantly via licensed some technology from s3

I assume I was just meant to download only the 2 drivers(audio and video).

I'm sure I did this correctly but the problem remains.

i'd probably download them all--it will not hurt to update all drivers.
