Dear reena, :whistling:

Uninstall the following programs from your Add/Remove list via your control panel:

Cloudmark Anti-Fraud Toolbar for Microsoft Internet Explorer
Flock Developer Preview - 0.5pre
FreshUI
Holding Pattern Screen Saver
Infowalker
Invisible IRC Proxy (Remove only)
Ml_Icons 0.3
ObjectDock
Plaxo Toolbar for Outlook and Outlook Express
PowerPro (remove only)
StartUp Manager
TuneUp Utilities 2006
Tweak UI

Restart you computer.

Let me know in detail, if your taskbar and/or desktop come back after you removed the above programs.

If the taskbar and desktop do not come back, run/create a new "Add/Remove Software list" log (see post #12) and post it here in a reply to this post.

Dear reena, :whistling:

Can you tell me in detail when you notice on this computer that you lost your desktop and taskbar, that is, did you install any applications at the time you lost your taskbar and desktop.

Also can you get to your registry editor?
*********************

If you have a start button, can you right click on it and choose "properties".

The taskbar and start menu properties dialog box should pop up. Click on the "Taskbar tab".

Make sure the the "Auto-hide taskbar" checkbox is unchecked and the

"keep the taskbar on top of other windows checkbox" is checked.

Let me know in detail how you make out.

Dear reena, :whistling:

You can perform an "windows xp repair install" on your computer but you are going to need a "windows xp installation cd". However, before we go down that route, please follow the instructions in this link I found through google. Let me know in detail if you get your taskbar, start button and desktop back.

Here is the link: http://www.annoyance...w/article07-006

System restore is not going to help you. What you need to do is do a "windows xp repair install" on your computer.

Make sure you backup your private data (i.e. my documents) by burning it to a cd-rom.

Here are a few links on how to do a repair install on your computer:

http://www.geekstogo...ws-XP-t138.html
http://www.besttechi...?showtopic=1523
http://www.michaelst...pairinstall.htm
http://support.micro...om/?kbid=315341 (See: Method 2: Reinstall Windows XP by starting your computer from the Windows XP CD)
http://www.tweakxp.c...ticle36955.aspx

Remember: your Windows Explorer has crashed, and if you tried my last post and it did not work, then you need to do a windows xp repair install.

See the following link as a reference: http://ask-leo.com/m...at_do_i_do.html

Sorry reena, but your data is mostly likely gone.
*******************************************

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Windows Updates:
  • Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. I cannot stress enough how important this is.
Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program <= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall <= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are ZoneLabs. and Outpost.
  • More Secure Browser <= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck.
