I tried turning off AVG resident sheild but it doesnt work...

I don't use AVG, but might I suggest you temporarily uninstall AVG then see if you can connect. If you can, then AVG is definitely the problem (though I fail to see why unless it's the version which includes a firewall). A standard AV prog shouldn't affect web access. Anyhow, if it is AVG causing the problem you could instead install the free Avast Home Edition antivirus (you need to give them your email address and they send you a free serial key for it). to my knowledge the avg resident isn't a firewall..it's a real time virus scanner (like norton's autoprotect)....if you have service pack 2 for xp it does in fact have a firewall..you can try adding the website to the allowed zone in it...unless you have another firewall program running
