upgrading windows 95 to windows 2000 or windows xp

hi there, my brother has this old computer, its windows 95, he wants me to upgrade it to windows 2000 or to windows xp? I know how to upgrade it, but I dont know which operating system is the best to do it? can someone guide me on this. Because one I upgrade, there is no way of going back to windows 95 .
I dont know how big is his harddrive and so forth? I dont know much about windows 95 opeating system, its so old. So what should I do????????????????????////

To check your current system

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on the right for the system details


Clean installs of a new OS can be less troublesome than installing with an upgrade CD
